Life and Credit : Save Money on Childcare
How to spend less money and buy more time...
One of the biggest expenses parents face is childcare, especially for children who aren't yet in school. The good news is that there is help out there, it just takes time to find it. Start by investigating government programs for children of low-income families. These are offered at the local, state and federal level. Contact church-operated daycare centers and schools, many of which offer financial assistance.
Another solution is to share childcare responsibilities with a friend, relative, neighbor or spouse. Or consider operating a licensed child care facility at home until your children are school age.
For older children, most public schools offer, or can direct you to, an after-school care program. Check with your child's school to see what your options are.
If your child would like to switch from public school to private school, there may be financial aid available. Contact the school of choice and ask about nonprofit organizations in your area that offer need and merit-based assistance.
